What does dance mean to you?
“Dance is in my blood. It is in my soul!!” These are words shared by Sylvia Melton, owner and dance instructor at Next Level Performing Arts Studio in Cabot, AR.
Sylvia Melton was born May 16, 1975, in Taipei, Taiwan and she lived there until 1997. Sylvia studied at a performing arts school from 7th grade – graduation from high school. At that time, Sylvia came to the United States for an educational opportunity. She was able to attend the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and she graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Theatre and Dance. During her college years, she participated in several workshops. In 1999, she attended the William Evan workshop in New Mexico, the Skip Costa workshop in Louisiana (2000), The Pules workshop in Dallas and most recent, the William Evan workshop in New York in 2016. These workshops opened doors for Sylvia allowing her opportunities to dance with and under many teachers. She has danced with Bill Evans, Kitty Daniels, Suzie Lundgren, Debra Knapp, Jan Erkert, Martha Eddy, Claire Porter, Skip Costa, Jennifer Mizenko, Holly Williams, Kraig Patterson, Kyle Richards, Karen Earl, Li-hua Tsai, Loretta Livingston and Li Cheng.
Sylvia danced at the Mei-Ching studio in Taiwan from 1985-1997. The last seven years at Mei-Ching she was also a dance assistant. In 1999, Sylvia worked at Mrs. Karen's Dance Studio as a modern dance instructor, and from 2010-2016 instructor of ballet tech, lyrical, jazz and contemporary at Cabot Dance Academy.
A dream for Sylvia came true with the opening of her own studio, Next Level Performing Arts Studio, in January 2017. Sylvia Melton is real. Her specialty is using dance to work through “real-life” experiences. At Next Level you will grow, feel and learn to express yourself through dance.
